Punt Yard used to be a bar and kitchen right on Quayside, one of the two main launch points for punting tours in Cambridge and one of the liveliest stretches of riverbank in the city. The bar closed, but Quayside itself hasn't gone anywhere — this site is now a small independent guide to the area: its punting history, its geography, and what's worth knowing if you're planning to get out on the water.
What is Quayside?
Quayside sits on the River Cam near Magdalene Bridge, at the northern edge of Cambridge's city centre. Along with Silver Street and Mill Pond further south, it's one of the two places in Cambridge where most punting tours begin. It's also a short walk from the Cambridge Markets and Bridge Street, which is part of why the area has long mixed river life with cafes, pubs, and independent shops.
